Stories of Friendship is a multi-media oral history project that documents stories of cross-communal relationships in Sri Lanka. Stories of Friendship empowers ordinary Sri Lankans to tell their own stories. Participants consist of pairs of individuals who have a cross-communal relationship. One member of the pair interviews the other.
Stories of Friendship broadcast in Sinhala and Tamil on local Sri Lankan radio stations. The Broadcasts were followed by a bi-lingual community discussion of themes raised in these conversations.
Stories profiled Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim friends who helped each other survive incidents of ethnic violence, and cross-communal bonds between farmers, barbers and their clients, and lovers.
